Floater Frames
If you have a prestretched canvas, or are planning on having one stretched, a floater frame may be the finishing touch you need to create a modern look for your art.
Floater frames are very different from your traditional frame. Where the lip of a traditional frame sits overtop of your artwork about ¼” all around the canvas, the floater frame sits away from the artwork by approximately ¼” typically. This allows the artwork to be viewed in its entirety while giving it the illusion of floating. Due to their simple nature, they help give your artwork a finishing touch without becoming distracting or overbearing and allowing the artwork to speak for itself. Floater frames also typically sit a bit higher than the face of the artwork, which helps protect the edges from abrasion. Floater frames are the preferred method of framing most 3 dimensional artworks that don’t require glass such as stretched canvas paintings, stretched photo prints, and paintings on panel. Although these are the types of artwork commonly framed in floaters, these frames can also be used to frame dibond mounts, facemounts, plakmounts, flushmounts, floatmounts, mirrors, and much more.
