About The Framing Depot
The Framing Depot first opened its doors in June of 1994 and is owned and managed by Steve Morkotinis. Steve was born in Toronto, and currently resides in Ajax with his wife Cindy, and their 2 children, Amelia and Carson.
Steve began his career in the business of importing and distributing picture frames with David Hughes Trading Company Ltd., servicing companies such as Eaton’s. Mr. Hughes, the owner, was a very successful businessman who mentored Steve, sharing his 60 years if experience with him. When Mr. Hughes retired in 1994, Steve put this experience to good use, and instead of staying in the importing business, he changed his focus to a more custom and retail oriented framing business model. It was at this time, that the Framing Depot was created.
25 years later, we could never have imagined the growth we would see today. Starting as a small one-man shop, and growing into a production facility and showroom of over 12,000 sq. ft. with over 15 employees, we now stand on top of the custom framing world. Our formula for success is simple; do great work, give great value, and continue to learn and reinvest in the company.
We originally expanded the company with the computerized mat cutter over 15 years ago, then we launched Lepix, our digital imaging sister company. Continuing to grow; our latest and biggest investment just happened. We recently acquired an SCM CNC router with a maximum cutting bed of 5’ x 12’. This piece of equipment is a true game changer and gives us the ability to create so much more. For example, with it we can produce any frame shape you could imagine, which is foreign to our industry. We are super excited about this new equipment and the doors it will open. Heck, it will even make the doors!
Although we have become a not so small business, we continue to welcome all types of work; from the most exclusive hotels in the world (and we’ve done a few!) to the most basic glass and mat replacement. No job is too big or too small.
In the near future we are excited about some plans to open up a few additional stores. This will give us the opportunity to serve our current client base better with less distance for them to travel, not to mention expose us to a wider audience.
A big thank you to all of our customers, without you we would not have become what we are today. We look forward to framing your memories for years to come.
Keep building walls and we’ll keep filling them.
